Taoyuan City Global Contribution Student Association is about to enter its third year!
Taoyuan Global Contribution Association is a student-led volunteer activity that hopes to transform Taiwan's existing volunteer service model and enhance the educational content and cultural significance of volunteer activities. In addition to traditional volunteer activities, the association also organizes international exchange activities and promotes Taiwan's aboriginal culture through online platforms, hoping to enhance Taiwan students' international vision and organizational leadership capabilities.
After graduating from junior high school, the association's general secretary, Chen Qingyu, went to California to attend Mayback High School, where she found that American students generally have a positive attitude towards social participation and value local Indian culture. In view of this, Chen Qingyu felt that she should do something in Taiwan to do her best to enhance Taiwan's social and cultural awareness and let the world better understand Taiwan's multi-ethnic culture.
Since its establishment in June 2017, Taoyuan Global Contribution Association has held many volunteer activities at home and abroad, covering Taitung, Daxi, California, etc. In January this year (2019), the association held a cultural exchange activity between Taiwan and the United States with Berkeley High School. The participants on both sides benefited a lot and achieved remarkable results. Therefore, the association will continue to promote exchanges with Berkeley High School and is expected to visit the United States in January 2020. It has been confirmed that in March 2020, Berkeley High School will invite many high-quality high schools in California to visit Taiwan for exchanges, conduct field visits and exchanges, and deepen the connotation of volunteer culture.
In addition, on April 11, 2019, the Global Contribution (Community) Learning Association and the National Central University Practices Community completed a joint cooperation signing ceremony witnessed by the Education Bureau’s Chief Secretary Lai Yinkui and the Youth Affairs Bureau’s Chief Secretary Li Xunzhi. Practices Community – is a student community composed of National Central University students, dedicated to promoting the trend of online learning (Online Course) in universities, hoping that students can make good use of Internet resources and find their own interests in the online world. It also hopes to establish a forum to gather students who are concerned about issues related to learning and practice. Therefore, on July 27 and 28 this summer, the Global Contribution (Community) Learning Association and the National Central University Practices Community will hold the Taiwan Interest Practice Education Forum. A series of activities and lectures will provide middle and high school students with the opportunity to explore their future career goals in the context of the 108 curriculum, not only to confirm their own position early, but also to infer their own study strategies. In the future, the Taoyuan City Global Contribution (Community) Learning Association and the National Central University Practices Community will also provide online micro-courses to enrich students' resources for independent learning, hoping to encourage young people to actively acquire knowledge and lifelong learning.
In addition to the recognition and support of the mayor, school principals and council members, Taoyuan City Global Contribution Association also has the participation of Hongqi Women's and Children's Hospital Director Zhang Hongqi as the association's honorary advisor this year to support children in taking the initiative to care about the things around them, learning how to communicate in groups and cultivating active service personality traits, which not only changes the existing volunteer service model but also enables self-growth.
In the fall of 2019, the association's general secretary Chen Qingyu will enter the University of Southern California, and the association's vice general secretary Chen Suiwen will enter the New York University Abu Dhabi. The two of them hope to continue to expand the Taoyuan City Global Contribution (Co-)Study Association's mission of "contributing what you have learned and learning together", promote Taiwanese culture through online platforms, and enhance Taiwanese students' international vision and organizational leadership capabilities.
